The Late Starters is a Christchurch band who formed in 2019 and are forging a growing reputation for their live performances with a style best described as new Kiwi, old school music.
The five-piece band is made up of singer David Stack, songwriter Ian Cartwright on rhythm guitar, Lowell Mallon playing lead, Paul Mallon on bass and Scott Lucas behind the drums.
Following the release of their debut album in 2019, the single Ohau was voted No.21 in the Regular Radio Independent Hottest 100 for 2019. Subsequent singles False Victim, Quarter to Ten & Blistered Hills have all garnered international interest, being playlisted on over 80 indie radio stations and growing their following and capturing local attention.
2022 was a busy year for the band having opened for the Jordan Luck Band for four gigs on their Winter Road Trip, then opening the inaugural Smokefest BBQ Festival at Hagley Park in their first festival appearance. The band are regulars at Musclecar Madness in Rangiora.
With new music currently being recorded, 2023 promises to be another year of firsts for the band “evidently on a mission to make a name for themselves in Ōtautahi and beyond”.
